Space We purchased our first pregnant broodmare in 1994. For the first few years we leased space. Finally in 1997 we purchased 20 empty acres on the west side of Bakersfield and began to develop our facility. We started with three pastures. Then we added an eight stall mare motel (24’ x 48’ stalls) and six 16’ x 48’ runs with 12’ x 16’ covers.
Since then, we’ve become intelligent and have built pastures with shelters. It is best for broodmares, babies and all young horses to be out. We have three half acre grass pastures that we save for the babies. We have nine half acre or larger dry pastures for the other horses. Now about the only horses you will find in runs or the barn are either here for layups, training or waiting to foal. We currently care for 22 horses.
Quiet Creek Along the tree line on the northern edge of our property is a creek. But in California water is strictly regulated and not allowed to run wherever or whenever it wants. So unless it is a very wet year, our creek is very quiet and very dry.
The average rainfall in this part of California is about 5” annually. So we value anything green! |
